CEHC Masters Scholarships for Ghanaian Students

The Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium, International Centre for Eye Health is inviting candidates from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries to study for masters in Public Health for Eye Care at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), United Kingdom.

The Masters in Public Health for Eye Care at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a well-established course that aims to train leaders in prevention of blindness and to strengthen research and academic capacity for eye care programmes and training facilities, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

The Commonwealth Eye Health Consortium is a group of expert organisations working together to deliver a five-year programme of fellowships, research and technology to strengthen eye health systems across the Commonwealth.

It is essential that all students should have an adequate command of the English language to benefit from studies at the School.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing masters programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to undertake MSc in Public Health for Eye Care.

Scholarship Award: Several scholarships are made available each year. Each scholarship covers course fees, two return flights, dissertation project funds, living costs and accommodation at the International Students House in Central London.

Eligibility:  The applicant must:
-come from low or middle income Commonwealth countries that are less represented in the alumni body of the MSc Public health for eye care
-work in regions where there are severe constraints in human resources for eye health
-work in regions where there are no / limited training opportunities in PHEC / community eye health
-demonstrate previous involvement / commitment to community eye health activities or VISION2020 programmes
-present a clear career plan in public health for eye care, which they will realistically
-be able to follow on completion of the MSc
-have experience in public health for eye care based research and/or training in eye care
-fulfil the UK Border Agency English Language Requirement by passing the LSHTM English language requirement by 15 March, 2016.

Nationality: Applicants from a low- or middle-income Commonwealth country are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

College Admission Requirement:
-A student must normally satisfy the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine general entrance requirements and the additional programme specific entrance requirements as follows:
-The normal minimum entrance qualification for registration at the School on a Master’s programme is at least one of the following:
a second-class honours degree of a UK university, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, in a subject appropriate to that of the course of study to be followed
a registrable qualification appropriate to the course of study to be followed, in medicine, dentistry or veterinary studies
-Applications with an appropriate technical qualification, or equivalent qualification and experience from overseas, are also welcomed.
-Additionally for the MSc Public Health for Eye Care, students are expected to be health care professionals involved in eye care, or to have an appropriate technical qualification and work experience.
-Any prospective student who does not meet the above minimum entry requirement, but who has relevant professional experience, may still be eligible for admission. Qualifications and experience will be assessed from the application.

English Language Requirement: For all students requiring a Tier 4 Student visa, the School English requirements reflect the Home Office requirements.  You will note that only certain nationals of certain countries are exempt from the English condition. If the Home Office does not consider your home country, or the country you were taught in to be majority English speaking, you will be required to take an English test.

The countries the Home Office consider to be majority English speaking are: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Barbados, The Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Republic of Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis , St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United States of America.

If Non EEA nationals do not meet one of these requirements and require a Tier 4 Student visa, they must take an IELTS English language test and achieve the minimum required scores (7.0) in all test components.

-Transcripts of your previous studies (and official translations if applicable)
-Research Proposal (if you are applying for research studies)
-Other documents students should submit if applicable are:
-English language test results
-Evidence of funding
-Evidence of your permanent residency
