Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana Pays a Working Visit to University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) – 2017

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Madam Heather Cameron has paid a working visit to the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa to familiarise herself with events and activities of the University. She was accompanied by Mr Anderson Blanc, the Counsellor and Senior Trade Commissioner of the High.
Welcoming the High Commissioner to the University, the Vice Chancellor, Prof J. S. Y. Kuma, expressed the felicitations of the University to Her Excellency the High Commissioner. Prof Kuma then introduced the Staff of the University present to the High Commissioner and the Senior Trade Commissioner. Prof Kuma told the High Commissioner about some of the achievements of the University over the years. He spoke about the quality and uniqueness of the programmes that UMaT offers and indicated that as the only mining University in West Africa, UMaT has produced a great number of quality graduates in mining, petroleum and allied engineering disciplines who are working in various industries especially in the mining, energy and petroleum sectors in Ghana and other parts of the world.
Her Excellency the Canadian High Commissioner said, she was delighted to have come to a renowned University such as UMaT. She told the meeting that she was marking her first anniversary as High Commissioner to Ghana and so decided to tour the sites of some Canadian mining companies in the area. She praised the Vice Chancellor and his team of Faculty and Administrators for the excellent work they were doing to help the students to excel in their programmes of study. According to her during her visit she was informed by the Canadian Companies about the quality of UMaT’s students.
The Vice Chancellor also informed Her Excellency that the University has signed MoUs with two Canadian Universities and intimated that it was the wish of the University to have more collaboration with Canadian Universities. The High Commissioner indicated that she would assist UMaT to increase the number of Higher Institutions it currently has collaborations with.

Her Excellency the High Commissioner also indicated that there were various study opportunities in Canada and indicated that she will make available information on these opportunities for the benefit of students and staff of the University. She thanked the Vice Chancellor for making it possible for them to visit the University and to learn about the impressive things both staff and students were engaged in.
The Vice Chancellor thanked Her Excellency the High Commissioner for making time to visit the University and wished that the relationship that had been established will grow from strength to strength.

Alhassan, the Dean of Office of International Programmes, Assoc Prof E. K. Asiam, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Assoc Prof W. K. Buah, the Dean of the Office of Research, Innovation and Consultancy, Assoc Prof P. K. Eshun, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, the Dean of Students, Dr B. Kumi-Boateng and the University Relations Officer, Mr Paul Yeboah.
