Accra Technical University Holds Inter-Faculty Seminar Series

The main Auditorium of the Accra Technical University, ATU, was locked down in a space of intellectual and innovative display when some faculty members took to the field of research to flex their scholarly muscles in the maiden edition of the Inter-Faculty Seminar Series.
The symposium which sought to afford faculty members the opportunity to showcase their work on various research topics will also provide them with the avenue for a healthy academic discourse and dissemination of their findings to tackle societal challenges.

Drawing from the Schools of Engineering, Applied Sciences and Business and Management Studies, the members brought their A-game to bear by eloquently analyzing their findings with in-depth presentations and projections.
Characterized with critical questions and fascinating responses, the two-sectioned event was under seven different topics ranging from technology, economy, employment, business among others.
The first presentation which was christened “Assessment of Smart Technology in Solid Waste Management”, exposed the loopholes in the usage of ordinary waste bins. Smart bins were professed as solution for prudent waste management. The research which was conducted by Emmanuel Adusei Essel and Amo Blay Samuel aimed at addressing waste management issues with the use of technology.

Presenting the research topic “Source Separation of Solid Waste; Profitable Venture and Clean Environment”, Mark Nyameche created a model for the separation of solid waste from the source for profitable business and clean environment. This blueprint according to him will segregate solid waste from its origination; engender gainful business and waste free environment.
Other presenters also put up sterling performances with topics such as Projecting Ghana Beyond Aid, Electrical Power Distribution and Efficiency, The Effect of Compensation on Employment Performance at ATU and relevant others.
Underscoring the essence of the seminar, the Head of Research and Innovation Department of the University, Mr. Ransford Churchill was confident the exercise will improve the scope and horizon of both existing researches and members.


The Chairman of the seminar, Dr. Ernest Christian Winful, commended the organizers noting that the move is timely in the current dispensation of the University and urged them to sustain the initiative.
Ready to crack the whip, the Director of Research and Innovation Directorate at the University, Mr. Edwin Mends-Brew cautioned unwilling faculty members of the consequences their failure to contribute to the programme will have on their professional fortunes.
Congratulating the Director of Research and his team for their ingenuity, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Edmund Ameko pledged Management’s full support for the initiative. He was optimistic the episode will contribute immensely to the efforts by Management in projecting the University as pacesetters in research for socio-economic development.
The seminar was under the theme “Demystifying Research Through Inter-Faculty and Industrial Collaboration In Accra Technical University”.
