A five-day training workshop on the theme ‘Quality Assurance for Higher Education Personnel in the 21st Century’ is underway at the Tamale Campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS). The event, to be held from 2nd– 5th October, 2018 is being organised under the auspices of the Secretariat of the Association of African Universities (AAU), and aims at equipping Personnel of public Universities and analogous institutions with requisite skills and knowledge in quality assurance in higher education.

Inaugurating the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor of the host University (UDS), Prof. G. A. Teye was excited to see a good representation from member institutions of the AAU. He underscored the relevance of academic quality assurance in the management of higher education institutions and expressed confidence that, the training would culminate in the adoption of more stringent quality assurance measures across board.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Secretary-General of AAU, Prof. Etienne E. Ehile observed that a country’s global competitiveness relies on the effectiveness of its institutions in preparing prospective graduates for industry and the world of work. He stressed the need for Africa to revive its higher education systems to produce home-grown solutions to overcome its myriad of developmental challenges. “Proper teaching with relevant research that focuses and attaches emphasis on the issue of quality assurance helps a lot in improving the graduate quality and our socio-economic status”, he added.
