Invitation to the 5th WFURS Conference
The 5th conference of the World Forum of Universities of Resources on Sustainability (WFURS) will be held from Monday, 6th November, to Thursday, 9th November, 2017 at the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana. Member of the WFURS are all cordially invited to attend. WFURS is dedicated to furthering education and research in the field of raw materials. Due to the rapidly rising demand for raw materials worldwide, the impacts on the environment, society and the global economy are reaching new dimensions, which are increasingly becoming clear. Therefore, the universities of resources across the world assume responsibility for implementing the principles of sustainable development in research and education along the complete raw materials life cycle. The 5th WFURS will feature only contributed papers.
General Information
Arrival/Departure Arrangements
Arrival at Kotoka Airport
All airplanes entering Ghana will generally arrive at the Kotoka International Airport, which is located in Accra. On arrival, initial conference registration is at the Holiday Inn, which is within the airport enclave, where delegates could spend the night. Please note that Holiday Inn is offering all delegates a discounted rate of US$200, down from the rack rate of US$350. Delegates must indicate that they are attending the WFURS conference to obtain the discount.
Trip to Tarkwa
The trip from Accra to Tarkwa is roughly 6 hours’ drive. The trip from Accra to Tarkwa will be by coach. As part of this trip, delegates will be taken on an excursion to the Cape Coast Castle, which is a UN World Heritage Site.
Takoradi Airport
Delegates who miss the bus or are unable to join the excursion are encouraged to fly to the Takoradi Airport, which is about 90 minutes’ drive from the conference venue. A bus will be arranged to convey delegates from this airport to the conference venue.
In all cases, delegates are encouraged to provide the secretariat with their travel itinerary for any assistance required.
Departure
The departure arrangement to Accra may be by coach or by flight from the Takoradi Airport. Where one opts to travel by flight to Accra, prior booking is advised.
Visa Information
The Conference Secretariat will assist with visa and other letters required for participation at WFURS 2017.
Banking/Currency
Ghana’s currency consists of coins of one, five, 10, 20 and 50 pesewas and one Ghana cedi denomination; and notes of one, two, five, 10, 20, and 50 Ghana cedi denomination. The notes are in a colourful and durable paper.
Foreign exchange facilities are available at banks, some hotels and airports. Most major credit cards including Mastercard and Visa are accepted at most ATMs, and some restaurants and shops.
Current exchange rates can be obtained from your bank. All major credit cards are widely accepted in Ghana. Currency exchange rates can be found online at services like www.xe.com.
Business Hours
Banks are open from 09:30 to 16:00 Monday to Fridays and are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
