Lancaster University Calls For Papers : 3rd Annual Disability Conference 2018
In a bid to make Ghana an enabling environment for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to lead dignified and meaningful lives, the Lancaster University Ghana Multidisciplinary Conference on Disability, has engaged concerned stakeholders in exploring a vast range of issues affecting PWDs within the Ghanaian society. As the family is the basic building block of society, any critical discussion on society must have a focus on the family. The third edition of the multidisciplinary disability conference recognises this and seeks to foster critical engagement with the place of the family in issues relating to PWDs and, in particular, how a focus on the family can assist in tackling the disability issues that we face as a society,

The third edition of the multidisciplinary disability conference recognises this and seeks to foster critical engagement with the place of the family in issues relating to PWDs and, in particular, how a focus on the family can assist in tackling the disability issues that we face as a society.
The Conference welcomes papers from academics, practitioners and policy makers from a range of disciplines including, but not limited to, advertising, business, communications, education, ICT, law, linguistics, marketing, personal development, philosophy, politics, psychology, religion/theology, sports, etc. on the conference theme, that critically engages with accepted knowledge and practice about disability and the family. Multidisciplinary papers that span two or more disciplines are especially welcome.
Suggested sub-themes for papers include:
• Societal perceptions of disability, marriage and family life
• The role of the family unit in supporting disabled persons
• The role of the family in understanding and responding to the educational challenges of persons with disability
• The contribution of media campaigns to attitudes towards PWDs and their families
• The role of ICTs in improving the health and other living conditions of families of PWDs
• The rights of families of PWDs
Papers are invited from academics, researchers, activists and other interested persons on any area related to the conference theme.

Abstracts of not more than two hundred (200) words should be sent to m.barnes@lancaster.edu.gh with “2018 Disability Conference” by 9th January, 2018.
Acceptance will be communicated by 16th January, 2018.
Full papers may also be submitted for publishing in the Lancaster University Ghana Journal on Disability and Development, a peer-reviewed journal.
