ADMISSION INTO ELECTRO-TECHNICAL OFFICERS [ETO] PROGRAMME

Do you desire to be a professional seafarer? Do you intend working at sea as a professional Electrical/Electronic Engineer? The opportunity is here now!

The Marine Electrical Engineering Officer is one of the most vital positions in the technical hierarchy of a ship. Advancement in technology on board merchant vessels and off-shore installations has called for the upgrading of the competence of ships’ personnel. The need therefore has arisen for qualified Electrical/Electronic personnel to be trained with expertise in the areas of marine communication, electronic navigation, electro-technology, computerization, automation and control systems, to man ships and offshore installations.

The Electrotechnical Officers (ETO) Course is the course mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) 78 Convention (as amended) to train Electrical Engineers who wish to make seafaring a career. The Regional Maritime University is the only institution that runs the ETO course in this sub-region.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course has two (2) levels of certification – Electrotechnical Officer 1 (ETO-1) and Officer 2 (ETO-2). Each level is a 1-year (two semester), full-time program. The first semester of each program is for academic courses and the second, for professional courses. On completion, participants shall qualify to be awarded Certificates of Competency (CoC) by the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA).

JOB VACANCIES

Prospects of availability of jobs abound all over the world. Companies like Pacific International Lines (PIL), Singapore; American Eagle Tankers (AET), USA; Bernard Schultes (BS), Germany; and a host of others have recently offered employment opportunities to graduates from the RMU.
