2018 Vacancies for Senior Level Administrative Positions : College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana

The University of Ghana hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the senior level administrative positions in the College of Health Sciences, which are listed below and which will become vacant on 1st August, 2018.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE:  The College of Health Sciences shall advance the objectives of each of its constituent Units by these specific objectives, to:

(a) promote health through education, research and service;

(b) provide promotive, preventive and curative services to meet the health needs of the nation and the global community through world class excellence in teaching, research and dissemination of knowledge;

(c) produce highly qualified and competent health professionals and medical scientists;

(d) promote development of sustainable health programmes.

 

POSITION CHS 1:  Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery

REPORTING TO:  Provost, College of Health Sciences

 

The School of Nursing and Midwifery comprises the following academic units:

Department of Adult Health

Department of Community Health Nursing

Department of Maternal and Child Health

Department of Research, Education and Administration

Department of Mental Health

 

POSITION CHS 2:  Dean, School of Pharmacy

REPORTING TO:  Provost, College of Health Sciences

The School of Pharmacy is made up of the following departments:

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Department of Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine

Department of Pharmaceutics and Microbiology

Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology

POSITION CHS 3:  Dean, School of Public Health

REPORTING TO:  Provost, College of Health Sciences

The School of Public Health is made up of the following departments:

Department of Biological, Environmental and Occupational Health

Department of Biostatistics

Department of Community Health

Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control

Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management

Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health

Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITIONS OF DEAN

The successful applicant must:

(a) be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.

(b) be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.

(c) provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School.

(d) demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.

(e) have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School.

(f) Normally, be able to serve a minimum of one term in office.

 

DUTIES

A Dean is responsible for providing leadership to the School and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the School Management Committee.

The Dean is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School are duly carried out by members of the School.

The Dean is also responsible for the general administration of the School in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

TENURE

A Dean shall hold office for three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

The application pack should contain the following:

i. Completed application form for Senior Level Administrative Positions (UAB Form 1C) to be downloaded from the University’s website at www.ug.edu.gh/hrodd

ii. An up to date Curriculum Vitae with supporting educational and professional certificates

iii. A statement of about 2,500 words (not more than five pages) indicating how one intends to use the period in office to address relevant issues that will ensure that the University achieves its mission and vision.
