ADMISSION OF CANDIDATES TO RESEARCH OR HIGHER DEGREES PROGRAMMES, 2016/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR

DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING; REGIONAL WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION CENTRE, KUMASI (RWESCK)

The REGIONAL WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION CENTRE, KUMASI (RWESCK) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi Ghana, with support from World Bank and Ghana Government seeks to build high quality human resource capacity in Ghana and the sub-regional to meet the needed critical mass of human resources required to address the development challenges highlighted in the Africa Water Vision 2025 and Sustainable Development Goals.

PhD PROGRAMMES

RWESCK Graduate Research Programme is pleased to invite applicants from Ghana and all the West African Countries to pursue 3 years full-time study in the following specialisation:

  • PhD in Water Resources Engineering and Management
  • PhD in Water Supply and Treatment Technologies
  • PhD in Environmental Sanitation and Waste Management

Females are encouraged to apply. 

PARTIAL PhD FELLOWSHIP

  • Scholarship to pay bench fee,
  • Scholarship to pay academic facility user fee,
  • Fund to cover Research cost,

PhD ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

In conformity with the entry requirement of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the successful candidate will have a minimum of:

  • First and Second Class (Upper Division) in their first degree.
  • Good Master’s degree in Water and Sanitation, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Natural Resources, Geology, Mathematics, other relevant disciplines, with an average of at least 60% cumulative weighted average. Submit academic transcripts.
  • Candidates with journal publications have an advantage.
  • Age Limit: 40 years or less.
  • Must have relevant work experience in water and sanitation,
  • Evidence of current and previous employments related to water and sanitation.
  • Candidates from non-Anglophone countries must have an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language (TOEFL or British Council, IELTS) with above average score.

MASTER’S PROGRAMME (MSC)

RWESCK Graduate Programme is pleased to invite applicants from Ghana and the West African Countries to pursue 18 months full-time MSc programme in the following specialisations:

  • MSc in Water Resources Engineering and Management
  • MSc in Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation

MODE OF APPLICATION

Ghana applicants

  • First of all, candidates must purchase an eVoucher at the locations listed below. Sale of eVoucher/Forms for admission shall commence on January 2016
  • Upon payment of the application fee, candidates will receive an eVoucher containing an application number and PIN that will grant access to the online admissions portal.
  • Ghanaian applicants should then proceed to the online admissions website: https://admissions.knust.edu.gh/pgadmissionsnew
  • Once the process is completed, candidates must print out three(3) copies of the completed application form from the portal and submit them hand to the School of Graduate Studies along with all relevant documents (Photocopies of Certificates, Recommendation Letters and academic transcript for those attending KNUST for the first time),

International applicants

  • International applicants do not require eVoucher.
  • International applicants can access the KNUST application via https://admissions.knust.edu.gh/pgadmissionsnew/foreign.php without any payment. They will be charged upon admission to pursue their programmes offered
  • Once the process is completed, candidates must print out three(3) copies of the completed application form from the portal and submit them hand to the School of Graduate Studies along with all relevant documents (Photocopies of Certificates, Recommendation Letters and academic transcript for those attending KNUST for the first time),
  • Completed application form with Two passport photograph
  • Detailed CV and two letters of reference (one from a supervisor at the Master’s level)
  • Official transcripts and certificates for BSc and MSc degrees
  • Proof of ability to communicate in English for Candidates from non-Anglophone countries
  • Motivation letter (two pages). PhD candidates are to submit soft and hard copies of a letter of motivation (max. two pages) with the heading outlining why you want to study, what makes you well-suited to study in your chosen specialisation, current occupation, how the Programme will fit into your professional vision, how your home country stands to benefit after your training.
  • Short concept note of research proposal. PhD candidates are to submit both soft and hard copies of a short concept note (max. 3 pages) outlining the problem, justification, objectives, methodology and expected outcomes of a research idea.

KNUST RWESCK will short list candidates for a selection interview in Kumasi OR via telephone. The date of the interview will be communicated after short listing.
