The University of Health and Allied Sciences invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following positions to take effect from 1st August 

Position 1: Dean, School of Allied Health Sciences
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Position 2: Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Position 3: Dean, School of Pharmacy
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Position 4: Dean, Fred N. Binka School of Public Health
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Position 5: Dean, School of Sports and Exercise Medicine
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Position 6: Director, Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant must:

a. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible to be appointed as such; and

b. Be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines;

c. Provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the School/Institute;

d. Demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development;

e. Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the School/Institute. 

Duties

a. Provide leadership to the School/Institute and for maintaining and promoting the efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council and Academic Board;

b. Ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the School/Institute are duly carried out by members of the School/Institute;

c. The Dean/Director is also responsible for the general administration of the School/Institute in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of university policies;

d. Perform other functions as may be determined by the Vice Chancellor.

Terms of Appointment

A Dean/Director shall be appointed by Council on the recommendations of the University Appointments and Promotions Board (UAPB) and shall hold office for three years and is eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years only by the retirement age of 60 years.


Position 7: Director, Office of International Programmes
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant must:

a. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible to be appointed as such, and

b. Be capable of providing managerial and administrative leadership to the Office of International Programmes and its affiliated units and must have capacity to promote a collegial working environment within the institution;

c. Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of International Programmes.

Duties

The Director of International Programmes shall, under the Vice Chancellor:

a. Manage all agreements establishing links between the University and foreign institutions of learning;

b. Promote and advertise the programmes of the University to international students and researchers;

c. Organize summer schools and orientation programmes for foreign students;

d. Provide guidance and counselling services for international students;

e. Coordinate staff and student exchanges and external staff training programmes;

f. Create and maintain a comprehensive database of students and external assistance programmes; and

g. Perform other functions as may be determined by the Vice Chancellor.


Position 8: Dean of Students
Reporting to: Pro-Vice Chancellor

Duties

The Dean of Students shall, under the Pro-Vice Chancellor:

a. Provide chaplaincy services through the Chaplaincy Board to students and other members of the University;

b. Resolve conflicts between students and halls and hostels of residence, as well as conflicts involving students outside of halls and hostels;

c. Make representation to the University about ways of enhancing the quality of students’ life;

d. Ensure the maintenance of cordial relations among the various student groups and the student body as a whole, to ensure that they obtain maximum benefit from their university experience;

e. Ensure the orderly organisation of student activities within the University;

f. Provide leadership to all bodies and activities that promote the well-being of students of the University including the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), and UHAS branch of Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG);

g. Oversee the management of dues and other levies collected by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and the UHAS branch of GRASAG from students or on behalf of students;

h. Oversee the formation of student associations;

i. Work with student groups in developing extra-curricular programmes and activities of the University;

j. Co-ordinate with the groups to encourage the participation of students in activities that promote personal growth and development of students;

k. Encourage the development of a student culture, exercise of leadership, respect for diversity and the traditions of the University, and responsibility for personal actions;

l. Give permission to students to go on protest marches and demonstrations whether within or outside the University;

m. Be assisted by an Advisory Board in the discharge of his/her duties.

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant must:

a. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible to be appointed as such. AND;

b. Be capable of providing managerial and administrative leadership to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs.

c. Have the vision and drive to oversee the growth, welfare and development of student affairs in UHAS.

d. Have the capacity to work with student leaders to maintain a harmonious student front and promote a cordial working relationship between the student body and management of the University.

e. Have experience of working effectively with young people and a good understanding of the factors that affect the lives of young people.

f. Have very good interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with young people.

g. Have effective dispute prevention and management skills.


Position 9: Director of Quality Assurance
Reporting to: Vice Chancellor

Duties

a. Oversee and manage quality assurance and enhancement activities in  the University and ensuring that the requirements and objectives of the programmes are met.

b. Proactively spotting challenges and recommending solutions with respect to Quality Assurance within the wider scope and framework of the University.

c. Play an active role in ensuring that quality assurance issues are appropriately considered and addressed.

d. Lead the production of relevant quality assurance literature, policies, reports, and other documentation in line with GTEC requirements.

e. Responsible for the management and administration of quality assurance systems.

f. Development, management and administration of internal and statutory student surveys, annual monitoring process, course modification process, course feasibility study and validation processes and periodic review processes.

g. Plan and organize quality assurance reviews and audits.

Qualifications and Experience

The applicant must:

a. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible to be appointed as such, and;

b. Be capable of providing managerial and administrative leadership to the Directorate of Quality Assurance;

c. Have the vision and drive to oversee the development of Quality Assurance in UHAS;

Term of Appointment
