The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) met one of its major milestones on October 10th 2019 by launching its maiden Research Dissemination Day, which was a collaboration between the university’s Institute of Health Research (IHR) and its six active schools. The October 10th event showcased 10 oral presentations and more than 30 poster exhibits by faculty and students of UHAS under the theme, “Impacting our world through multidisciplinary health research”.

Professor Richard Adanu, keynote speaker said he was delighted that UHAS, a university dedicated to cutting-edge research, was — through this event — placing research at the forefront of its activities. He encouraged the audience to take keen interest so that Africans could play leading roles at all stages of research, including funding, in order to undertake projects that would provide “solutions that are relevant” to our problems; further, that research policies should be changed to foster more inclusive collaborations.

The highlight of the day was the presentation of awards. Dr. Nuworza Kugbey from the School of Public Health (SPH), who presented on “Access to health information, health literacy and health-related quality of life among women living with breast cancer” won in the ‘best oral presentation’ category; Mr. Samuel Teye Korley won the ‘best poster’ award on “Prevalence and determinants of overweight/obesity among taxi drivers in the Ho municipality”; and School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) won in the ‘best exhibition’ category.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, chaired the event, which was attended by senior members including the Pro-Vice Chancellor, the Registrar, Deans and Directors, and staff of UHAS as representatives of partner institutions.
