The University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified persons within the institution for the following vacant senior member position in the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD).

POSITION:Quantity Surveyor
REPORTING TO:Deputy Director of PDMSD (P.D.P & T)


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Quantity Surveyor, Planning, Development, Projects and Transport Division (P.D.P & T), is part of a team in the PDMSD that is responsible for the management of the Physical Development and Maintenance of the Facilities and Properties of the University.

Key Responsibilities
i.     Preparing feasibility studies, cost plans or development appraisals
ii.    Advising end-users on ways of procuring the project
iii.   Advising on the setting of budgets and monitoring design development against planned expenditure
iv.   Conducting value management and engineering exercises whilst managing and analysing risk
v.    Preparation of Bill of Quantities
vi.   Managing the tendering process and the preparation of Contract Documents
vii.  Controlling costs during the construction process
viii. Ensuring the successful completion of projects
ix.   Valuation of construction work for interim payments, including Change Orders, and agreeing on final accounts
x.    Giving advice on the avoidance and settlement of disputes during the construction period

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must have:
a)    A minimum of a good first degree in Building Technology or Quantity Surveying from a recognised tertiary institution and must be a member of the recognized professional body with, at least, two (2) years working experience after obtaining professional membership.

b)    A Master’s degree in a relevant field may be an advantage

c)    Be a current employee of the University of Ghana

Required Skills:
i.    Complete understanding of QS Software applications and practices
ii.   Experience and proficient user of Excel
iii.  Creativity and originality in Project Management
iv.  Knowledge about Procurement Processes
v.   Ability to support a team with good collaboration skills
vi.  Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently
