The University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified persons within the institution for the following vacant senior member position in the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD).

POSITION:Facility Manager
REPORTING TO:Deputy Director of PDMSD (E.M & M.D)

                 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Facility Manager, Estate Management and Maintenance Division (E.M & M. D) is part of a team in the PDMSD which is responsible for the management of Physical Development and Maintenance of Facilities and Properties of the University.

Key Responsibilities
i.    Project management, supervision and the coordination of contractors’ works
ii.   Calculate and compare costs for required works to achieve maximum value for money
iii.  Assist in the development of the University’s Strategic Plans
iv.  Coordinate and help plan essential services such as maintenance, cleaning, waste disposal and recycling
v.   Ensure buildings meet health and safety requirements
vi.  Check that agreed work by staff or contractors has been completed satisfactorily and follow up on any deficiencies
vii. Respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise and ensure actions taken are line with the relevant regulations.

Additional Responsibilities
viii.  Will Manage residential properties (346 on-campus housing units, 242 at Staff Village, 12 at Redco-Madina, 16 at Adenta, 35 at Southwest Legon, 144 at Achimota and some rented premises)
ix.   Enforcement of the code of conduct that regulates living in University accommodation
x.    Provide professional services to the Housing Committee and Staff Housing Advisory Committee, including allocation of houses to staff in Accra and other regions
xi.   Make arrangements for accommodation for visiting scholars
xii.  Facilitate payments of utility charges to the utility service providers and ensure that the appropriate utility charges are deducted from the salaries of staff
xiii. Will lead a team of members of the Directorate that takes inventory of vacant houses to determine the scope of work, estimate cost of renovation and eventually prepare blank bills to be priced by contractors
xiv. Valuation to determine rents for University accommodation
xv.  Ensuring the efficiency of all building systems

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must have:
a)    A minimum of a good first degree in any discipline in the building industry (Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Estate Management, etc) from a recognised tertiary institution and must be a member of the recognized professional body with, at least, two (2) years working experience after obtaining professional membership.

b)    A Master’s degree or Post-Graduate Diploma in any discipline in the building industry may be an advantage

c)    Be a current employee of the University of Ghana

Required Skills:
a)    Complete understanding of any building Software applications and practices
b)    Knowledge about Procurement Processes
c)    Creativity and originality in Project Management
d)    Ability to support a team with good communication and relevant skills
e)    Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently
