UEW Undergraduate Full-Time Admission for the Academic Year

These are the basic requirements to be satisfied to qualify for admission into the University. They are to be met together with other programme-specific requirements.

1.  Bachelor’s Degree Programmes

DIRECT APPLICANTS

WASSCE/ SSSCE Certificate Holders

(i)  At least six (6) WASSCE Credit Passes (A1-C6), including three (3) Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) and three (3) relevant Elective subjects. with a total aggregate of 36 or better. OR

(ii)  At least six (6) SSSCE Credit Passes (A-D), including three (3) Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies) and three (3) relevant Elective subjects, with a total aggregate of 24 or better.

(iii)  Applicants must satisfy the Programme Specific Requirement(s) for the Programme(s) chosen. (Please see details in the Admissions Brochure)

School Certificate/GCE holders

GCE ‘A’ Level passes in two (2) relevant subjects (other than General Paper), plus five (5) Credits at GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language and Mathematics.

Applicants with GCE results which are more than five (5) years old should apply as Mature Applicants.

Baccalaureate and other Foreign Qualifications

Applicants will be considered on recommendation and establishment of equivalence by the National Accreditation Board. Otherwise, candidates may apply as Mature Applicants.

MATURE APPLICANTS

i. Must be, at least, 25 years by August 1, 2024.

ii Should have a minimum of GCE/SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate or DBS/RSA Certificate, or an equivalent qualification.

iii. Must pass the UEW Entrance Exam in General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Subject Area Test (SAT)

 POST-DIPLOMA APPLICANTS (DIPLOMA HOLDERS)

i. Must possess a Higher National Diploma or its equivalent in a relevant field of study from a recognised institution.

(Successful applicants for Post-Diploma programmes may be placed at Level 200 or 300 of the four year degree programme depending on their background).

2.  Diploma Programmes

DIRECT APPLICANTS

i. WASSCE: Passes (A1-D7) in three (3) Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science/Social Studies), plus Credit Passes (A1-C6) in three (3) relevant Elective subjects.  OR

ii. SSSCE: Passes (A-D) in three (3) Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science/Social Studies), plus Passes (A-D) in three (3) relevant Elective subjects. OR

iii.  SC/GCE:  Five (5) Credit Passes at GCE ‘O’ Level, including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.

1. Senior High School (SHS) Certificate Holders

i. Must have at least, six (6) WASSCE passes including three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science or Social Studies, as well as

ii. Three (3) Electives in relevant subjects with the total aggregate of 36 or better.

iii. Must also satisfy Special Programme requirement(s) for programme(s) chosen.

 2. School Certificate/GCE Holders

i. Five (5) credits at GCE “O” Level, including English Language and Mathematics as well as

ii. Two (2) “A” Level passes other than General Paper in relevant subjects

3. Diploma Holders

i. Must possess a Higher National Diploma or its equivalence from previous field or area of study.

ii. Full-Time applicants may pass an interview.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates opting for French as second area should have at least C6

2. Candidates opting for English as second area should have at least C6

3. Candidates opting for another Ghanaian language as second area should have at least C6

4. Candidates opting for German and Linguistics need no prerequisite requirement.

UEW DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. WASSCE Entry Requirement

Applicants must have Credit pass (A1-C6) in FIVE (5) subjects, comprising THREE (3) Core Subjects including English Language and Mathematics, and TWO (2) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme chosen.

2. SSSCE Entry Requirement

Applicants must have Credits (A-D) in FIVE (5) subjects, comprising THREE (3) Core Subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, and TWO (2) Elective Subjects relevant to the programme chosen.

a) Other Diploma Programmes Entry Requirement

1. WASSCE Entry Requirement

i) Six passes (A1 – D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics; and

ii) Must possess a minimum of C6 in any three (3) of the passes relevant to the area of specialization.  

2. SSSCE Entry Requirement

Successful HND applicants would be placed at Level 200. However, those with a class below 2nd Lower will be placed at level 100

1. MATURE APPLICANTS: Applicants who want to enter as mature candidates must not be less than twenty-five (25) years old by August of the year of enrolment and must be holders of any of the following qualifications

i. Electrical Engineering Technician Part II

An applicant must have one of the following categories of entry requirements:

(a) Credit Passes (WASSCE A1-C6 or SSSCE A-D) in three (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; plus a Credit passes (WASSCE A1 C6 or SSSCE A-D) in three (3) Elective subjects, including Food and Nutrition and any two (2) of the following: Management in Living, Textiles, Clothing and Textiles, General Knowledge in Art, Chemistry, Economics, Biology, and General Agriculture.

(b) Mature Applicants

Applicants must be at least 25 year by 1st September and have any of the following qualifications:

• Advanced Cookery Certificate (Cookery 812/2) or its equivalent

• GCE “O” and “A” Levels           

• Advanced Cookery Certificate (Cookery 812/2) or its equivalent

• Teacher’s Certificate “A” or Teacher’s Diploma in the  relevant   subject area

• Applicants must pass a written entrance examination.             

(c) Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate Holders

   Applicants must:

• Have a good HND Certificate (at least 2nd Class Lower Division) or its equivalent in Catering

• Have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience

• Pass an interview

BSc. FASHION DESIGN AND TEXTILES EDUCATION

(Full Time and Sandwich)

(a)        Credit Passes (WASSCE A1-C6 or SSSCE A-D) in three8 (3) Core Subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science; plus a Credit passes (WASSCE A1-C6 or SSSCE A-D) in Clothing & Textiles or Textiles, and any two of the following other Elective subjects: Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art, Graphic Design, Economics, Leather Work,

(b) Mature Applicant

Applicant must be at least 25 years by 1st September, a holder of the following qualifications and pass a written entrance examination:

• Advanced Fashion Certificate (Must pass a written entrance exam)

• GCE “O” and “A” Level (Must pass a written entrance exam)

• Teachers’ Certificate “A”

• Teacher’s Diploma in the relevant subject area

• Applicants must pass a written entrance examination.  

(c) Post-Diploma Applicants

Applicants must have a Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate (at least a Second Class Lower Division) or its equivalent in the following disciplines

• Fashion Design and Textiles Studies

• Textiles

• Fashion Design

Notes:

A. Fee-paying facility is available to applicants who do not meet the competitive selection cut-offs but satisfy the minimum university requirements.

B. Special Education applicants should pass the entrance examination in their second programme before selection.

C. Successful applicants of Ghanaian Language would be given the opportunity to offer a second subject in English/French/Linguistics/German.

D. Physical Education and Sports Coaching applicants should not be more than Forty (40) and Fifty (50) years respectively.

E. Submitting an application with supporting documents is the first step in the selection process. Applicants are entreated to study the admissions brochure carefully before completing an application.
