ADMISSION TO POST-GRADUATE, UNDERGRADUATE AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES FOR 2016/2017 ACADEMIC YEAR  

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following programmes for the 2016/2017 Academic Year commencing in August 2016.

 A.         MASTER OF ARTS (M.A.) PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION

(The M.A Ports and Shipping Administration is run in collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies, University of Ghana)

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

A good First Degree with at least a Minimum of 2nd Lower Division in any of the following:

  • Social Sciences; Business Administration; Maritime Discipline and other related Disciplines from a recognized University, plus not less than two (2) years post-qualification working experience in Logistics or Maritime related organization.

or

  • The highest grade Certificate of Competency for unrestricted service as Master Mariner or Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy.

 

  • Applicants must submit the following with applications:

(i)                 Detailed Curriculum Vitae

(ii)               A thesis proposal of not more than 500 words

(iii)              Three (3) referee’s reports.

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(i.)   B.Sc. MARINE ENGINEERING/B.Sc. ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING/ B.Sc. NAUTICAL SCIENCE/ B.Sc. COMPUTER ENGINEERING/B.Sc. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

  • WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO holders: Applicants must have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credits (A1-C6) in three elective Subjects which must include Physics and Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score of 24 on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better.

or

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicants must have credits in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus at least three Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects one of which must be Mathematics.

or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of Grade C, American Grades 12, FTC, City & Guilds, Technician Part 3 and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc. in relevant subjects which are equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE or the GCE will be considered.

or

  • HND Holders:     HND holders in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institutions. Applicants must have at least two (2) years post-qualification working experience.

 

NOTE: i. Candidates for Nautical Science and Marine Engineering must equally meet the conditions for Cadetship training programme.

              ii.   The University will arrange for vessels/ships for students internship/practical training.

 

(ii)     B.Sc. COMPUTER SCIENCE

  •  WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO holders who have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) elective subjects which must include Physics and Elective Mathematics with an aggregate score of 24 on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE Scale or better.

or

  • Advanced General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicants must have Passes in three (3) subjects (at least, one of the passes should be D or better). In addition, applicants must have credit passes (Grade 6) in five (5) G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of Grade C, American Grades 12, FTC, City & Guilds, Technician Part 3 and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc. in relevant subjects which are equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE/NECO or the GCE will be considered.

or

  • HND Holders: HND holders in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division from recognized Tertiary Institutions. Applicants must have at least two (2) years post-qualification working experience.

 

(iii.)    B.Sc. PORTS AND SHIPPING ADMINISTRATION & B.Sc. LOGISTICS

           MANAGEMENT

 

  • WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO holders: Applicants must have credits (A1-C6/ A-D) in the following Three (3) Core Subjects: English, Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies plus credits (A1-C6) in three (3) elective subjects with an aggregate score of 24 on the SSSCE Scale or 36 on the WASSCE scale or better.

Or

 

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) holders: Applicants must have credits in at least five G.C.E ‘O’ Level subjects (including English Language and Mathematics plus at least three passes at Advanced Level.

or

  • Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) Applicants must have full Diploma Certificate in ABCE. In addition, applicants must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) or SSSCE or WASSCE or NECO.

 

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of grade C, American Grades 12 etc. which are equivalent to WASSCE/SSSCE/NECO or GCE will be considered.

 

 PLEASE NOTE:

(a) (B.Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT) with one year abroad.

The above programme is jointly run by the Regional Maritime University (RMU) and Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) China. The First, Second and Fourth years will be run at the Regional Maritime University, Ghana while the third year will be in Shanghai Maritime University, China. 

 

  • Interested candidates must have the financial capability to pay for a return ticket to China and also their upkeep whilst in China.
  • Applicants must not be more than 30 years at the commencement of the programme (August, 2016)

 

(b) B.Sc. LOGISTICS MANAGEMENT) without a year abroad

Applicants will pursue entire programme i.e. year 1 to 4 at RMU, Ghana.

 

(iv)       MATURE STUDENTS’ ENTRY ROUTE (ALL PROGRAMMES)

Applicants must be at least 25 years old, and would have to show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth which is at least 5 years old at the time of application.

  1. Applicant must also pass Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations conducted by the University in (English Language, Mathematics and Aptitude Test).

 

Note: The Mature Examinations will be held on Thursday, 21st July, 2016

 

C.       DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

            (i)     DIPLOMA IN PORTS AND SHIPPING MANAGEMENT

  • Applicants must have six [6] passes (A1-D7) in all subjects, including English Language and Mathematics and a minimum of C6 in three (3) passes in any elective subjects.

or

  • G.C.E. ‘O’ Level Credit in five [5] subjects (including Mathematics & English Language), plus G.C.E. ‘A’ Level passes in any two (2) subjects.

or

  • GBCE Candidates: credit passes (A-D) in five (5) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus two (2) relevant elective subjects.

 

(iii)             DIPLOMA IN MARINE ENGINEERING /NAUTICAL SCIENCE  AND REGULAR/WEEKEND ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING

  • SSCE/WASSCE/NECO: Applicants must have six [6] passes (A1-D7) in all subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and a minimum of C6 in three (3) passes in relevant subjects (e.g. Elective Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Electricity, Geography etc).

or

 

  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Holders: Applicant must have credits in at least five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus at least two (2) Advanced Level passes in relevant subjects.  (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Metal Work, Applied Electricity etc).

            or

  • Other Qualifications:  Other qualifications including International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum note of 10/20 in each of the relevant subjects, IGCSE with a minimum of Grade C, American Grades 12, FTC, City and Guilds, Technician Part II and Advanced Technician Diploma, etc .in relevant subjects which are equivalent to the SSSCE/WASSCE/NECO or the GCE will be considered.

 

Target Group:  Diploma in Marine Engineering and Nautical Science programmes are ideal for those interested in developing Professional Careers in the Merchant Marine and Oil & Gas Industry.

 

NOTE:  

i. All candidates must satisfy specific Departmental requirements in addition to the general requirements. 

 ii. Final Admission onto all programmes is based on successful completion of physical and medical examinations at the Regional Maritime University Sick Bay.

iii. The University will organize Proficiency in English Language class for all candidates from non-English speaking countries in June 2016.

D. INTERNATIONAL ADVANCED DIPLOMA/ DIPLOMA/CERTIFICATE IN LOGISTICS & TRANSPORT PROGRAMMES

(i) Certificate Entry Requirements: To qualify for this programme, participants ought to have been educated up to Senior High School (SHS), GCE Ordinary and Advanced Levels with minimum of credits passes or equivalent professional qualifications.

(ii) Diploma Entry Requirements: Applicant must possess the International Certificate in Logistics and Transport or a University Degree or HND.

  • In addition, participants must have worked in a logistics and transport environment for a minimum of three years.

(ii)  Advanced Diploma Entry Requirements:

–        Applicants must possess the International Diploma in Logistics and Transport of CILT,

–        Maters in Logistics, Supply Chain and Transport and Ports and Shipping Administration.

All applicants for the 2016/2017 Academic Year admissions are required to use the Regional Maritime University [RMU] online application portal.  The procedure for the online application process is as follows:

 

[a]       Make appropriate payment as indicated below at the various sales centers for the RMU

  • Post-graduate/Up-graders programme:       GH¢210.00 or $70.00
  • B.Sc. Programmes:                                  GH¢150.00 or $50.00

[b]        The E-Voucher contains the Pin and Serial Number required in completing the online form.

[c]        Access the online form by visiting the University’s online admissions portal at www.rmu.edu.gh/admissions  soon after payment.

[d]        In completing the online form, students will be required to upload their passport size photographs.

[e]        A completed form is not considered until it is SUBMITTED.

[f]        Applicants are advised to check thoroughly all details entered before finally submitting their online applications. A form, once submitted, can be viewed, but cannot be edited.

[g]       Applicants must print out application summary; attach transcripts, certificates and all other relevant documents.  These documents should be sent to the Registrar.

[h]        Candidates are strongly advised to visit Courier Companies in their Countries for assistance towards the return of the application documents [see g].

CLOSING DATE

The closing dates for submission of applications are 15th July, 2016 for Matured Applicants and 31st August, 2016 for Regular and Weekend applicants.  Candidates should note that no applications will be accepted after the deadline.
