Nwabiagya Rural Bank limited, has supported needy students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with ten thousand (10,000) Ghana cedis.

Presenting the cheque for ₵10,000, Nana Owusu Sarfo-Anwona II, Board Chairman of Nwabiagya Rural Bank stated that the donation was in response to an appeal by the College of Engineering (CoE) to come to the aid of needy but brilliant students in the College.

Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, Vice-Chancellor, in receiving the cheque thanked the Board and Management of the Bank for coming to the aid of the students and by extension the University. He stated further that currently the University has a population of 45,000 students, which comprise some who have genuine financial needs especially those from less endowed schools.

Professor Obiri-Danso said it is therefore not out of place that they were contacted to come in to help as it would go a long way to support the training of students. He expressed his appreciation to them and promised to officially acknowledge receipt and to thank them.

Professor Kwame Boateng, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, representing the Provost, said there a lot of students who have difficulties in settling their living expenses aside the tuition fees. He said the Provost together with faculty has initiated some strategies to help such students. The provost currently provides a stipend of ₵100 for 17 needy students, while 500 students are provided rice, oil, mackerel and other foodstuffs in course of the semester. He stated that it was as a result of sustaining such initiatives that the College sought help from some individuals and corporate institutions. He therefore commended the bank for the assistance.

Dr. Anthony K. Edusei Board Member, Mr. Nuamah Dankwa General Manager, Dr. Jerry John Kponyo and Mrs. Victoria De-Graft Adjei were present to witness the ceremony.
