KAIPTC TRAINING PHILOSOPHY
The Centre uses the Collaborative Problem Based Learning (CPBL) approach on all training courses. Through this pedagogy, participants learn through working together and sharing ideas and experiences to solve or find solutions to problems.
This is more so important because we create a platform for all levels of knowledge; academia, professionals, practitioners and the like.
Intrinsically, facilitators also equally learn from participants through sharing of experiences, in discussions on how they handled some problems in the field of learning in peace and security and allowing reflective thinking which is promoted through open discussions with expert guidance.
KAIPTC training is contextualized to reflect the regional and continental issues while we ensure that training programmes are reviewed regularly to be current with emerging situations, using the academia, experts and field practitioners.
We also lay emphasis on diversity among participants in terms of academia, culture, religion, gender and experiential backgrounds in bringing a range of perspectives to bear on discussions. The process stimulates learning, and serves as a tool for developing problem solving skills. This also stimulates the cognitive process and allows participants to acquire new knowledge through autodidactism, (self-directed learning/learning on your own or by yourself)
This approach is centred on the following tenets;
- Acknowledging that participants are all matured, they variously have experiences in peace and security issues which they comfortably share, so it is participants centred.
- CPBL in small groups allows participants to recollect what they already know, identify what they need to know and how and where to access information for solving a problem as peers contribute to discussions and cite sources.
- The facilitator encourages learning by supporting, guiding and monitoring the learning process; these go to build participants confidence and encourages understanding rather than teach.
