GNPC OIL AND GAS LEARNING FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP 2016

The GNPC OIL AND GAS LEARNING FOUNDATION(GNPC-OGLF) is an autonomous entity set up to give better institutional focus to GNPC’s contribution to build national capacity in oil and gas sciences, policy, management and operations in order to achieve national “local content” aspirations. The FOUNDATION is pursuing strategies in support of individual and institutional initiatives designed to build capacity holistically across the oil and gas industry value chain.
The GNPC OIL AND GAS LEARNING FOUNDATION is now calling for applications from suitably qualified candidates who wish to benefit from its scholarship and grant scheme to pursue studies in geosciences, petroleum engineering, engineering, oil and gas related disciplines. The scholarship is tenable in reputable Universities in Ghana and abroad.
[1] MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMME ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA
(i) Applicant for master’s degree programme must:
a. be a citizen of Ghana
b. hold a minimum of second class Division Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University in a relevant field of study
c. have gained admission into a recognized University to pursue a course of study in geosciences; petroleum engineering, engineering, and oil and gas related disciplines
d. not be a beneficiary of any scholarship administered by another Institution
e. not be more than thirty-five (35) years old as at the start date of the programme
f. demonstrate the commitment to return to Ghana(i.e. if the programme is undertaken abroad) after completing the programme in order to contribute to national development
g. have successfully completed the National Service Programme
h. provide two(2) letters of recommendation, one of which must be from the candidate’s lecturer or Head of Department at the University, and one(1) from a person who is familiar with candidate’s work and conduct
i. Previous work experience will be an advantage.
[2] DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) DEGREE PROGRAMME ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA
(i) Applicant for Doctor of Philosophy [PhD] Programme must:
a) be a citizen of Ghana
b) hold a good master’s degree from a recognized University in a relevant discipline
c) have gained admission into a recognized university to pursue a course of study in geosciences, petroleum engineering, engineering, or oil and gas related disciplines
d) not be a beneficiary of any scholarship administered by another Institution
e) not be more than forty (40) years of age as at the start date of the programme
f) have successfully completed the National Service Programme
g) demonstrate the commitment to return to Ghana (if the programme is undertaken abroad), after completing the programme in order to contribute to national development
h) submit a research proposal and a letter of consent from a proposed supervisor
i) submit three (3) letters of recommendation: one (1) from the candidate’s academic supervisor, one (1) from the candidate’s lecturer or Head of Department at the University, one(1) from a person who is familiar with candidate’s work and conduct
j) Previous work experience will be an advantage.
[3] SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
(i) In addition to the eligibility criteria above all applicants must submit the following:
a) An application letter for scholarship or grant, signed by the applicant [letter must indicate any three of the following contacts: mobile telephone number, email address, fixed line telephone number, postal address, etc.
b) List of all the relevant costs in the application letter: e.g. living expenses, tuition, all course related costs, details of costs (billed separately from the tuition) for required or mandatory field/study trips to sites within or outside host country. All costs must be supported with documentary evidence from the University. The total cost of attending the programme must then be stated
c) a copy of admission letter issued by a reputable University/Tertiary Institution in Ghana or abroad
d) a copy of the modules, segments, or contents of programme(Master’s degree applicants only ),and also provide links to University website
e) photocopy of academic certificate(s): • Bachelor’s Degree Certificate(applicants enrolling in Master’s Degree programme only ); • Bachelor’s degree, and Master’s degree (for applicants enrolling in PhD programme only)
f) applicant’s resume/curriculum vitae [CV]
g) bio-data page of applicant’s passport (in photocopy only)
h) applicant’s National Service Certificate (in photocopy only)
i) a Statement of Purpose which among others: emphasizes the relevance of the academic programme to the Ghanaian economy; highlights the candidate’s career objective and how participation in the academic programme will contribute to the achievement of the career objective; and outlines the individual’s plan of action (i.e. What candidate will do to apply or transfer any new or specific knowledge and skills to be acquired from attending the programme to create incremental growth in one’s field of work.
j) Letter of consent, and support from current employer (if applicable) indicating the terms and conditions of study leave (if eligible). The letter must confirm if the applicant will be returning to his/her job with the current employer at the end of the programme.
[4] ADDITIONAL SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
a) Shortlisted applicants will be required to submit the transcript of academic record from the previous University directly to the GNPC OIL AND GAS LEARNING FOUNDATION through a recognized courier service Company. The transcript should be received before the date of interview.
b) Shortlisted applicants must present the Originals of the following documents at an interview
(i) academic certificate(s). (ii) Passport. (iii) National Service certificate
c) Successful applicants will be required to submit any additional information or material demanded by GNPC-OGLF
d) Successful applicants will sign a BOND before the commencement of the study programme, pledging to return to Ghana after completing the programme, and also commit to other obligations specified in the BOND.
[5] GENERAL INFORMATION
a) Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview after the deadline for the submission of applications
b) Applicants are required to include a postage paid and self-addressed envelope with their application for a return mail
c) Documentary evidence of proof of continuing enrollment in the academic programme will be required from the Registrar of beneficiary’s University during the period of the programme
d) The scholarship will cover tuition, living expense and other expenses specified in the Award letter.
 DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE SUBMITTED NOT LATER THAN CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON 31ST MARCH, 2016.

NOTE:
APPLICATIONS WHICH ARE SUBMITTED TO THE GNPC OIL AND GAS LEARNING FOUNDATION OTHER THAN BY THE PRESCRIBED MEANS [REGISTERED POST, OR THROUGH A REGISTERED COURIER COMPANY] WILL BE REJECTED.
