Ghana Prisons Service General Eligibility And Requirements

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

Applicant must:

  1. Be a Ghanaian.
  2. Be of good character without any criminal record.
  3. Be medically fit by Prisons Service standards.
  4. Be between 21 and 30 years by 31st December, 2016.
  5. Not be bonded.
  6. Be physically fit.
  7. Be of minimum height of 1.68 m (5”6”) for males and 1.57m (5”2”) for females.
  8. Have Five/5 Credits in subjects (Not less than grade 6) at BECE including English and a Pass in Mathematics (for artisans with professional certificates).
  9. Have Five/5 Credits in subjects (Not less than grade C6) at SSSCE/WASSCE including English and a Pass in Mathematics for non-artisans.

CATEGORIES & THEIR REQUIREMENTS

  1. GENERAL DUTIES

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have SSSCE/WASSCE with Five/ 5 credits including English Language and a Pass in Mathematics.

  1. MEDICAL

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have credit in English (Not less than grade C6) and a pass in Mathematics at SSSCE/WASSCE and any of the following from accredited institutions:

  NURSES

(i)                 REGISTERED GENERAL NURSE (RGN)

Diploma in Registered General Nurse.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

(ii)        PSYCHIATRIC NURSE

Diploma in Registered Psychiatric Nurse.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

  1. AGRICULTURE

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following respective requirements:

(i)                 TECHNICAL OFFICERS

Diploma in Agric.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

(ii)               AGRICULTURAL TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT

Farm Institute Certificate.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

(iii)             PLANT OPERATORS

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in any of the plants stated below.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in any of the plants stated below.

In addition to any of the above, the applicant must have practical working experience in all or one of these plants/machines: Combine Harvester, Tractor, Plough, Power Tiller.

  1. ELECTRICIANS

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following.

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in Electrical Installation.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in Electrical Works.
  3. City and Guilds (Intermediate) Certificate in Electrical Engineering.
  4. NVTI Grade I in Electrical Engineering.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

  1. PLUMBERS & MASONS

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in one of the above.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate in one of the above.
  3. City and Guilds (Intermediate) Certificate in one of the above
  4. NVTI Grade I in one of the above.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

  1. WOOD CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY/CARPENTRY

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in Wood Construction Technology.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in Wood Construction Technology.
  3. NVTI Grade I in Carpentry/Joinery.
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) in Carpentry/Joinery

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

  1. WELDING & FABRICATION TECHNOLOGY

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in Welding and Fabrication Technology.
  2. NVTI Grade I in Welding and Fabrication
  3. COTVET Certificate II in Welding and Fabrication Technology.
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) in Welding and Fabrication

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage

  1. ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINEER

(i)                 MOTOR VEHICLE ENGINEERING/MECHANICS

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering with Driving Licence Class D or above.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in Vehicle Engineering with Driving Licence Class D or above.
  3. City and Guilds (Intermediate) Certificate (Internal Combustion Engines and Motor Vehicles) with Driving Licence Class D or above.
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering with Driving Licence Class D or above.
  5. NVTI Grade I in one of the above with Driving Licence Class D or above.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage

(ii)               ELECTRONICS/AUTO ELECTRICIAN & ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in one of the above.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in one of the above.
  3. NVTI Grade I in one of the above.
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) in one of the above.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage

(iii)             REFRIGERATION AND AIR-CONDITIONING TECHNOLOGY

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Technology.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Technology.
  3. NVTI Grade I in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Technology.
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning.

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

  1. TRANSPORT

DRIVER MECHANICS

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must possess Professional Drivers’ Licence Class D or above with qualification in the Automobile Mechanic in any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in Motor Vehicle Engineering.
  3. City and Guilds (Intermediate) Certificate (Internal Combustion Engines and Motor Vehicles).
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering.
  5. NVTI Grade I.
  6. SSSCE/WASSCE with Five/5 Credits (Not less than grade C6) including English and a Pass in Mathematics

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage

  1. TAILORS, TEXTILES & DESIGN AND COBBLERS/LEATHER WORK

In addition to General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following:

  1. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate in any of the above.
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) or COTVET Certificate II in any of the above.
  3. NVTI Grade I in one of the above.
  4. City and Guilds (Intermediate) in one of the above

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.

  1. BANDSMEN

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have Five/5 Credits (Not less than Grade C6) at WASSCE/SSSCE including English and a Pass in Mathematics or Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate/ COTVET Certificate II/ NVTI Grade I/ City and Guilds (Intermediate)/ or Proficiency in Basic Music (ABRSM) grade 4 and the following:

  1. Ability to sight-read musical notes.
  2. Ability to play Wood Wind or Brass Instruments.

Theory and Previous experience in a recognised music group will be an added advantage.

  1. COOKS/CATERERS

In addition to the General Eligibility, applicants must have any of the following.

  1. NVTI Grade I in Hospitality and Catering Management
  2. Ghana Education Service (GES) Intermediate Certificate or COTVET Certificate II in Hospitality and Catering Management.
  3. City and Guilds (Intermediate) in one of the above

Relevant practical experience is an added advantage.
