Call for Applications for enrollment into the Improved Master of Science (MSc.) programme in Cultivar Development for Africa

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) Improved M.Sc. in Cultivar Development for Africa (IMCDA) programme.

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, invites applications for enrollment into the Improved Master of Science (MSc.) programme in Cultivar Development for Africa beginning this 2016/2017 academic year.

Potential candidates for the programme should be those already working in National Agricultural Research Institutions or the Ministries of Agriculture or recognized public and private institutions who will be guaranteed job placement upon completion of the programme. Candidates must hold a good B.Sc. degree (1st Class or 2nd Class Upper Division) in Agriculture or related field of study from a recognized University. Candidates will be required to take formal study leave with regular payment of their salaries by their employers and provide evidence of re-integration into their current place of work to support research and development activities in cultivar development in their countries.

Age Limit: 35 years; Duration of Program: 30 months (including 6 months internship in a Research Institution or a Seed Company)

Crop Focus

The course work and research will focus on the following West African food crops:

Cereals: maize, rice, sorghum, millet
Root and tubers: cassava, yam and sweet potato
Legumes: cowpea and groundnut
Vegetables: tomato and pepper.

Geographic Focus

Candidates must be nationals of the following countries: Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and Nigeria. Nationals from the Francophone countries must show proof of English proficiency.

Selection Criteria and Funding

A panel of local academics will be constituted to evaluate academic records of applicants, to select suitable candidates for the programme.

Students will receive financial support to cover tuition, hostel accommodation on campus, book allowance, stipend, and research cost.
