The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Friday, 12th October, 2018 held Matriculation ceremonies for the 2018/19 batch of fresh regular students on Winneba and Ajumako Campuses.

The Matriculation Ceremony which officially admitted fresh regular students into the University as Junior Members had three sessions on Winneba Campus and a session at Ajumako Campus. The Occasion also served as an attestation that the fresh regular students have, indeed, qualified to formally pursue their studies in UEW.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni this year’s undergraduate and postgraduate enrolment recorded 33% and 50% increase respectively as compared to last year’s student enrolment.

He specified that over 40,000 applications were received for a variety of undergraduate programmes at the four Campuses and 40 Study Centres of the University. He added that 16,483 qualified for regular programmes and were thus admitted.

“At the close of registration, however, 12,285 had registered at the four campuses of this University into our regular programmes. For the regular postgraduate programmes, the University received a total of 1,242 applications for the 2018/19 academic year of which 995 applicants were offered admission. At the close of registration, however, 801 admitted applicants had registered in all the four campuses.” The Vice-Chancellor said.

The Vice-Chancellor admonished the fresh regular students to diligently study the rules and regulations that govern their stay as students of UEW. He urged them to be independent minded, but endeavour to participate meaningfully in team and collaborative work.

“Success is guaranteed when you follow virtuous living, eschew laziness and all the known vices, cultivate good study habits and make judicious use of your time.” He advised.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni also cautioned them to refrain from examinations malpractice as it could cost their studentship. He said “so, make it a point to sit up, be determined and focused, working on your lecture notes, private studies, and other extra-curricular activities”.

In attendance were the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq.; Ag. Finance Officer, Mr. Bruno B. Chirani; University Librarian, Mr. Viscount B. Buer, Deans, Heads of Departments, Lecturers and staff of the University.

Elsewhere, Asante-Mampong and Kumasi Campuses will hold theirs on Saturday, 20th October, 2018.
