The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Management Committed to Professional Development

Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Tuesday, 5th November, 2019 held the maiden professional development conference for Members of Convocation on the four Campuses of the University. 

The conference, which took place at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, was to inform Convocation Members about the need to take passionate action steps through sustained professional development in order to revitalise their teaching or administrative career.

There were presentations by the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni; Ag. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Ruby Hanson and a visiting Professor, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Aloy Ejiogu. The presentations were respectively on the topics “briefs from Appointments and Promotions Board and Management, offering support in our Professional Development Agenda and what quality research involves”.  Speakers, Rev. Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni explained the mandate of the Appointments and Promotions Board and drew participants’ attention to the major things the Board looks out for in promoting a staff. He encouraged participants to write articles and make publications in credible print and online journals. 

Prof. (Mrs.) Ruby Hanson highlighted the various institutional support available for staff and urged them to embrace the fact that professional development is a shared responsibility thus, the need to share ideas through effective communication and be submissive to constructive quality professional appraisal.   

Prof. Aloy Ejiogu who presented on the topic “what quality research involves” indicated that a quality research must have key components such as “clarification and justification, procedural rigour, representativeness, interpretative rigour, reflexivity and evaluative rigour, and transferability”. He admonished participants to pay attention to traits of objectivity, internal and external validity when conducting research.

The conference, which was moderated by the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., saw dispassionate deliberations and productive contributions by participants.
